I'm sure these stir sticks are great for crafts but the box they come in is made from unsealed, thin cardboard. My order arrived dented and open at both ends. The stir sticks were filthy and would only contaminate a beverage.I chose these Solo stirrers because Solo is famous for dining accessories (like their paper cups and plates). However, because of the packaging, this item should not be considered a dining accessory. It is for crafts only.

The box came torn open. It had been previously repaired prior to shipment. Stirrers were all over the main shipping box. These stirrers were made in China. I assumed the word Solo in the title referred to the brand. The word "Solo" does not appear on the package. I would guess about 5-10% are twisted, warped or have damaged ends. I did expect these types of defects. The package does say they are made of Birch and so they are. They are also noticeably thinner then the old ones I used up. As a reference a popcicle stick is thicker and of course wider. Since I am not using them for their intended purpose I cannot find fault with their thickness.I am using them to mix very small batches of various woodworking finishing products and spread glue. Therefore one damaged end is not a big deal. Since they are from China I would not use them with any food products. 1000 stirrers is a lot of stirrers and the price was very cost effective compared to what they cost at the hobby store. I probably could have used the 5.5 inch stirrers just as well at a lower cost assuming the same defect rate. I had hoped the "Solo" stirrers might be of higher quality then the others advertized on Amazon.

This product works well for us. Is this a Starbucks Quality stir stick? Haven't had time to compare. There may be some splinters somewhere in the "not so tightly packaged box", but I haven't noticed or been annoyed by any. Use 1-2 day for our coffee. Love the fact that we don't have dirty spoons or plastics to carry off for cleaning or recycling. Bottom of box had a hand written number on it as if it might have been inspected at the manufacturing facility. Just don't have a problem with this item being made in China - at least it's still being made - probably from left-over lumber trimmings. I guess if I really wanted to get picky, I would want to know the conditions of the factory, what type of tree, organic, fair trade - but really, who can argue with a product such as this that still exists & someone, in some part of the world, is making a living by satisfying a need.
